In the beginning...

Everyone has a story, and each story has a beginning.  When getting to know someone, you need somewhere to start.  In the almost four years since my divorce, there have been many times I've wanted some place to just write to my future husband... or, as the title of this blog suggests, my future knight.  During my dating experiences, and even during my married life, I often felt like he just didn't know the real me.  I dislike all those dating websites that ask you to describe yourself in 250 words or less.  It's impossible for anyone to go into much depth of who they really are in that short of a space. Because what we know and who we are is defined by our experiences and the many people who come into our lives.  During graduate school, I've been learning you can't judge someone because each of us have a unique set of experiences that shapes and molds us. Our perspectives, why we do the things we do, why we think about certain things the way we do, is all because of what we've experienced, our bird's eye view of reality.

So, after watching one of my favorite movies this weekend for the hundredth time, the idea came to me... what if I could reach out to my future husband with words, like Evan and his parents did with music?  Because I know my knight is out there somewhere.  And when we meet, I want him to know everything about me.  More than that, I want him to know the people who have shaped me into the person I am today.  I want him to know about the experiences, good and bad, that have created my unique reality.  And I hope that he'll love me, and all these people and experiences that have created me, as much as I do, and as much as I love him.

  1. Hey, Mandy. I look forward to learning more about the REAL you. I've recently started doing something similar through art. I'm sharing my journey on artventure365.wordpress.com. Blessings and peace on both of us :)
